Attack of the Spambots!

Image from Zoice
I just had to step up the security on the comments feature of the blog.  I've had a few spams posted in the comments before, but I'd just delete them as they came in. But after a day of funnin' and sunnin', I came home to one hundred emails, all of which were spambot posts.  There are ads for faux Louis Vuitton handbags, uggs, watches, Viagra. . .you name it.  Digging through each and deleting them would be a headache, so I'm going to leave them there.  My guess is, they'll get zero hits from them.

If someone in this day and age is fooled by these scammers, I suppose they deserve what they get.  I know that running spambots is practically free, but what a colossal waste of time it seems to be.  All they manage to do, probably 99% or more of the time, is annoy the people who run the sites, and annoy readers trying to read the comments.

I don't like to make work for people trying to leave comments though, which is why up until now, I had no restrictions or extra steps for people to post. That changes today.  Now, if you want to leave a post, you're going to be faced with the "type these words or letters" verification box. It's really no big whoop, I guess, but it is now obviously necessary.
