It is also an irrelevant question. Sure, if Obama weren't really Christian, it would qualify as a "lie," since he's called himself one on many occasions. But it would be a lie that is made by many every day, even probably a few former Presidents. What do I mean by that? Only that I suspect the current President is only nominally a Christian, probably more a skeptic, maybe even an agnostic or atheist. I have no proof, and I don't even really care. Being a Christian is not a requirement for holding office. But it is very nearly an unwritten requirement for getting elected.
But this whole "Obama is a Muslim" thing goes deeper than what his religion really is. It's yet another fear mongering, hate-baiting, divisionist tactic. It's a hair's breadth from the birthers, who believe that Obama was born in Kenya (or Indonesia, or Canada, or the Pacific ocean, or. . .), and thus is not a natural born citizen and thus unable to legally be President of the United States. You can bet that if Obama was a blond haired, blue eyed white guy, none of these sorts of conspiracy theories would exist.
Maybe if Obama stopped acting like a Muslim, people would take him more seriously.
ReplyDeleteI really don't care if Obama prays everyday (I doubt it, unless you hear the words "Jesus Christ" on the golf course or when he sees his poll numbers)
My guess, if we had a very good economy, most people would care less if Obama was Muslim or Wiccan.
But since the economy is in the tank, people are going to be more negative to the president, whoever it is.
How is he "acting like a Muslim?" Acknowledgement of Muslim holidays? Bush did that too. At least Obama hasn't (yet!) held hands with and kissed Saudi royalty! Heh.

ReplyDeleteBut in a February 2008 interview with the New York Times, Mr. Obama said the Adhan, the Muslim call to prayer, is "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset." He then recited it, "with a first-class [Arabic] accent." The opening of the Adhan contains the Shahada, the Muslim profession of faith, proclaiming, "There is no god but God and Muhammad is the prophet of God." Stating this before two Muslims is the traditional requirement for joining the Islamic faith.
And there is much more.
We've taken every other President's word about his own stated religion. We've taken every other President's word about his place of birth and citizenship. What is different about Barack Obama. . .WHAT COULD IT BE? I know there are people itching to say it, ready to burst forth with a "Dr. Laura" n-word extravaganza.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't go saying I'm playing the "race card." You know it's true. As I've said before, if Obama had taken after his mother and looked more like Ben Affleck than Cuba Gooding Jr., this idiotic Muslim/Kenyan conspiricy crap would NOT be going on.
