Right Wing World: Rush Limbaugh Has Finally Lost His Mind

. . .Or lost what's left of his mind? Or thinks his audience is irredeemably stupid? Or is back on the oxy? Something's going on, because his latest claims are so empirically false, so laugh-out-loud ridiculous, there's no way anyone but the densest dittohead could believe it.

Rush Limbaugh: Conservatives Don't Suppress The Black Vote, Restrict Women's Choice, Or Lie

Displaying a remarkable lack of self-awareness, Rush Limbaugh tried to convince a caller that "it's a pretty safe bet" that liberals always lie and conservatives never do -- an assertion he backed up with a series of his own lies on everything from abortion to minority vote suppression and the IRS. . .

Betty Bowers Explains What the Bible Really Says About Abortion

Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian™, has a series of videos explaining the finer points of Christianity to Christians who don't seem to really know what's in the Bible. Usually, the lesson is served with some less-than-gentle ribbing, and a heavy dose of snark. But the subject this time is abortion. Do you expect that subject can be handled gently and sweetly? So, be prepared for a gnarly, right in-your-face, shotgun approach. Oh, she's still snarky, but this time darkly funny, and really quite scathing. . .and utterly correct.

Thanks to my brother Jason for the tip.

Pennsylvania State Rep. Brian Sims Awesome for Several Reasons

An appropriate shot of Brian Sims
from his Facebook page.
For some time, a politician in Pennsylvania named Brian Sims has been on the liberal radar, mine included. Part of the reason is kind of shallow: he's a former football player who is big, beefy and very attractive. But after you discover that part, you find out he's also very smart, well spoken, and a strong liberal with integrity. That's pretty awesome. Then, if you didn't already know, he turns out to be openly gay, and was electable in a state where that hadn't happened before.

So, Sims wins a seat in the Pennsylvania legislature, and everyone who was paying attention probably still has him in their Twitter feed and is still following him on Facebook, and you start to see that he's a pretty awesome dude like, all the time. He really seems like the real deal, saying and doing all the right things, and looking great doing it. And now, he's really gone and done it: he's warmed the hearts of both the pro-choice constituency and those of us opposed to the intrusion of church into state.

I'm going to keep following him.

Brian Sims, Pennsylvania Democrat, On Abortion: We Did Not 'Swear To Uphold The Bible'

. . ."This legislation is about advancing an ideology of oppression and suppression, even if such a plan means ignoring the oath of office that each of us swore," Sims told his colleagues during a floor debate in the House of Representatives. "As a reminder, Mr. Speaker, I do believe this has been forgotten entirely by many of my colleagues today: Each of us put our hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution. We did not place our hands on the Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible. . ."

GOP Senate Candidates Can't Shut Up About Rape

Image from source, Wonkette
Seriously, WTF you guys? If you know you have ridiculous, douchey, inappropriate and insensitive ideas about something, why do you keep talking about it? We know that you think sex for pleasure is always wrong, sex within marriage is for procreation only, rape is only sometimes "rape," and that a sperm cell that has just penetrated an egg (or maybe is about to) is the same thing as a fully-formed human being. But every time you talk about it, it shines a spotlight on all of those ludicrous ideas.  But look who I'm talking to! These guys also seem to think they're fooling us with their comb-overs.

Yet Another GOP Senate Candidate Says Something About Rape

New Rule of Politics: If you’re a Republican running for Senate, just never talk about sex or anything related to it. You will do better pretending storks bring babies to worthy parents and/or welfare applicants. . .

Michigan GOP Overreacts to the Word "Vagina"

Honestly. If the GOP is insisting upon ramming through law after law restricting a women's right to choose, how in the world can they object to the word vagina. I mean, come on, I'm a gay guy who probably thinks about that word less than anybody, but even I don't find it to be an offensive word. And it was funny! A well-crafted joke up against humorless, tight assed busybodies. Well, the GOP isn't well known for its well developed sense of humor (see: Miller, Dennis).

Vaginas Must Be Republican Kryptonite

". . . I have not asked you to adopt and adhere to my religious beliefs. Why are you asking me to adopt yours? And, finally, Mr. Speaker, I’m flattered that you’re all so interested in my vagina, but ‘no’ means ‘no’."

UPDATE: I must say that in the comments section was perhaps the funniest euphemism for "vagina" that I've ever seen: Satan's coin purse.

Funny or Die: Rick Santorum Aborts Presidential Campaign

Rarely does comedy work quite as perfectly as this bit does. It's very nearly perfect, amusing and stars several very familiar faces. Faces like Ashley Judd, Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy), Katy Mixon (Mike & Molly), and Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings). Enjoy.

Arizona Bill: Life Begins Two Weeks Before Conception?

Yep, you may not have even had sex yet, but you're
pre-pregnant! Image from Raw Story.
Is there something in the water in Arizona? This is bananas.

[Excerpt]

Arizona bill would declare pregnancy 2 weeks before conception

A measure that passed Arizona’s Senate claims that it would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, but experts say that the bill is far more restrictive, effectively banning abortions after 18 weeks and declaring that a woman could be pregnant 2 weeks before she even had sex. . .

"Personhood" Laws Could Outlaw Some Contraceptives

I wonder what her view on capital punishment is? Image from Jezebel.
Okay, I wrote a lengthy piece about abortion, the GOP hard-right agenda in many states right now, and the possible connection to dominionism. And then my Blogger software ate it. It's gone. I'm not writing it again. I hope you can glean from the story what is wrong about "personhood" laws.

[Excerpt]

Consequences Of "Personhood" Bills Would Go Far Beyond Abortion

Recently there have been efforts in several states to legally extend rights to any egg that happens to get fertilized. While this is mainly intended to end abortion, passing "personhood" legislation would be severely harmful for women in more ways than one. . .

The Daily McBush: John McCain on Abortion Rights

The issue of abortion is sort of a non-issue for me, as it is very unlikely--to say the least--for the issue to ever affect me, even tangentially. I'm still generally pro-choice, but I don't get very animated about it.

Women on the other hand, particularly the activist variety that strongly supported Hillary Clinton do care very much about the issue. And before the follow through on their threats to vote for John McCain out of spite, they ought to watch this video. . .
