You've probably seen this picture already. It's of 56-year old Larry Duncan and 48-year old Randy Shepherd receiving their marriage license in Washington State this morning.
Photographer Meryl Shenker snapped it and, as the photo became an internet sensation, told Seattle PI she focused on the men because she wanted to challenge stereotypes. She did her job well, and we should all be grateful. . .

Photo of the Day: My Kind of Chick-fil-A Protest

I'm hopeful that the anti-Chick-fil-A Day doesn't result in any kind of pandemonium. I'm pretty sure that since homophobes can be counted on to turn out in larger numbers than actual gay people, that it will be more regional, and not as big a spectacle. If it's a smattering of kissing gay people, it will be a curiosity at worst, and the anti-gay folks can claim that they drew more people, and that will be that. But if it turns into something approaching the size of Wednesday's astonishing show of hatred? I fear for the people that turn out.

Why? Because this picture--which I find adorably cute and sweet--has been spreading on Facebook, and even though it is fairly benign, has been garnering the worst kind of response. Ignorant, nasty, ridiculous responses. It's getting good responses too, but a surprising amount of hatred. What will people do in the presence of actual boys kissing? The girls will be fine.

Photo of the Day: Eyebrows Threading

I'm becoming more and more obsessed with the Fresh & Easy market, and their daily markdown section. I was dubious of this quirky grocery when they first opened, thinking it was like Trader Joe's without the artsy-fartsy. But it's grown on me, and I'm glad that they've survived. Other stores in the same shopping center have not been so lucky, with most of the original tenants having gone out of business. But in a sign of a (hopefully) rebounding economy, most have been replaced. Oddly though, the new business are distinctly. . .well. . .odd. There's a restaurant called C R Buns. Yes, really. There's a hookah bar. And then there is the establishment with the grammatically incorrect sign in the picture at left. I'm not sure what "eyebrow threading" actually is, but I'm quite sure it isn't Eyebrows Threading.  And a pox on the cowardly sign company that didn't correct this for them. At least there isn't an apostrophe.
