Elena Kagan: Why Liberals Should Support Her

As I said in my previous post, I don't have anything invested in Elena Kagan's confirmation to the Supreme Court. I'm still pondering it. So in a sort of Point/Counterpoint, here is the other side of the coin.

The liberal case against Kagan is overstated

On April 9, Justice John Paul Stevens, the leader of the court's liberal wing, announced his retirement after nearly 35 years on the bench. President Obama plans to announce his pick to fill the seat by May 26 -- but Republicans are already threatening to filibuster the as-yet unknown nominee.



Following the announcement, Senate Judiciary Committee hearings will be held over the summer. The committee will question the nominee, as well as supporting and opposing witnesses, before voting and sending its recommendation to the full Senate. . .
