What's Wrong With Karl Rove?

I still see it in my dreams.

The question asked in the headline, and in the excerpted article below is rather vague, isn't it? What isn't wrong with Karl Rove? The man is made of wrong. Wrong is his thing, his schtick. And I mean that both in the sense of "that boy ain't right" kind of wrong, and just plain old incorrect. I will always lament the fact that Rove wasn't frog marched out of the White House. If anyone ever deserved it, it is that bag of pus. It was great to see him lose his shit on live TV, right there on FOX "News," on election night 2012. But it wasn't enough!

My biggest question is, after that humiliating event, and after Rove threw tens and hundreds of millions of Republican donor money into the crapper, why is he still making pronouncements, getting gigs, and being treated as though what he says means anything? Just how does he legally manage to be a big GOP fundraiser and an on-screen commentator? And it bears repeating: he's just a hideous human being.

Credit Card Fraud in Scott Walker's Recall Defense?

When it comes to Wisconsin politics, I make no claim to be plugged in. Though The Other Half does belong to a union, I never have. And having been raised in a Republican household, I've been told since I was a kid that, "Unions were a good idea years ago, but they've outlived their usefulness." This despite a dad in the firefighters' union! So, my take on the Scott Walker recall effort is in the larger story of the GOP 2010 freshman class of governors. They seemingly uniformly started a lurch to the hard right. This is probably because they've been spoonfed their policies by groups like ALEC.

They ran on the mantra of jobs, jobs, jobs, and then immediately started passing hundreds of anti-abortion efforts, union busting, anti-gay legislation, etc. All of it cut with an edge of meanness, from the governors to the legislators. Only Chris Christie seems to be able to pull this crap, and somehow maintain an aura of popularity. Thankfully, though my state improbably elected another Republican after our previous disaster of a governor, Nevada Gov. Sandoval hasn't blazed a trail of "screw you if you're not on my side." Which is nice.

Anyway, so Walker was dragged kicking and screaming into a recall election. But because his radical agenda would be so besmirched if he actually got recalled, the money has come a-rolling in. Yeah, yeah, I know the unions have been spending some jack too. But why wouldn't they? They're the ones Walker has been attacking after all. And I don't think they're matching the firepower of Karl Rove (horrible, horrible man) Reince Priebus, and the rest of the GOP cash machine.

Right now, Walker is leading. Not by insurmountable margin, but by enough that he probably isn't sweating too hard just yet. Then again, he might have different reasons to be sweating. There seems to be an unusual amount of corruption around Mr. Walker. Might the opposition (where are you, DNC?), be able to make a little hay out of this?

Karl Rove uncharacteristically spoke the truth about newly minted Delaware Senate candidate, Christine O'Donnell. On the FOX "News" show, Hannity of all places, Rove gave reason after reason why she was a bad candidate, while hapless Sean Hannity tried to shut him up, or at least get him to soften his stance.  Afterward, the far right blogosphere was abuzz. To hear them tell it, they never liked Turd Blossom all that much anyway. Heck, he was never their guy at all!  Suurrrre.

Can our memories really be that short? Could America really be ready to put another Bush in the White House after only a year and a half?  Yes, Jeb is the "smart" one, but if he's bringing Karl Rove to the party, how much different or better could he be? There is a certain logic to it, though. I mean, the current roster of A-list Republicans is chock-a-block with cartoon characters and escaped mental patients.  But how sad is it that the GOP needs to go to a Bush for a solid candidate?

Ewww, I said "Karl Rove" and "touch" in the same sentence. . .  Anyway, Rove's infamous "touch" has long been in question, after the 2006 and 2008 elections.  I mean he's relegated (along with Ollie North, Sarah Palin and other right-wing scoundrels) to being a FOX "News" commentator, after all.  But he plays extra dirty, so I'm always happy to see him fail.

Health Care Reform & Who We're Siding With

Politics is ugly. And divisive issues are even worse. How we manage to fall into black-and-white party lines over practically every issue still does puzzle me. For instance how is climate change a partisan issue? How is health care--something everybody has to deal with--a partisan issue? I think it is clear that there is more behind the motives of the politicians and pundits making these issues so partisan. But look who you have to side with if you are against health care reform:

- Karl Rove

- Sean Hannity

- Rush Limbaugh

- Newt Gingrich

- John Boner Boehner

Now there's a group of non-partisan, rational, logical people with no motivation for being against health care reform except for the "facts on the ground," right? And they don't have talking points like "ram it through," or "straight party-line vote," "one sixth of the economy," or "goverment takeover." When listening to Karl Rove argue against health care reform, I'm more convinced that we need to pass it. What a vile, repugnant man. So, if you are vocal against the bill--on matters of process, or on what is in the legislation--remember who you are casting your lot with. 'Cause it ain't pretty.

Gaahhhh. I don't think there's any way I could have read Karl Rove's memoir under any circumstances, but to see the "highlights" confirms that I won't even get it at the library. George W. And speaking of Karl "Turdblossom" Rove, here's an interesting tidbit. Not only Is Rove--who has used gays and gay marriage to further many a political end--getting divorced again, he wants his privacy protected. HA!!! If Rove has ever sensed even a crumb of political hay to be made by invading someone's privacy, he has done so.

As someone who believes Rove should be behind bars as a prison wife, I'm galled just to see him flapping his jowls on FOX "News." But if seeing his corpulent, pasty face with the scrote hair on top is the price I pay to see this man's privacy invaded, so be it. Go to it. Rake him over the freaking coals. Nobody deserves it more. Anyway, isn't it time for Rove to finally settle down with Jeff Gannon?

What if you threw a party and nobody came? Well, if you're Newt "frankly" Gingrich, Karl "Turd Blossom" Rove, Bill "Cheshire Cat" Kristol or Liz "Spawn of Dick" Cheney, you found out. I'm quite past believing that my wishes and dreams of Karl Rove being frog-marched out of the FOX "News" studios in shackles will ever come to pass. Though it is a sweet dream that is hard to abandon. But I'm glad to see Turd Blossom actually having some mud that sticks to him. So while they probably aren't going to nail him with something illegal, the ethics and morality of this stink, and that is the legacy he should be left with.

Why Does Karl Rove Get Any Respect?

The excerpted article below asks a very good question. Why in the world does Karl Rove--hey, "Christian" is literally his middle name--have even a shred of credibility? He lied and schemed for his whole career, committing ethical and most probably violations of the law as a matter of course. He's a detestible toady, who even to his biggest supporters is known as "Turdblossom" or "Rove, you magnificent bastard." They love his scumminess.

Rove's policies have been proven wrong, and even worse, his predictions and pronouncements are regularly proven wrong as well. He's got a horrible track record. Still, people keep asking his opinion. Hell, they pay for it. I suppose this isn't entirely uncommon. Pundits like Bill Kristol, Brit Hume, Mort Kondrake, Charles Krauthammer (and so many others) are quite regularly wrong. And the lord, god, king Mr. Wrong of all time--Dick Cheney--still gives speeches that are covered by all of the cable news channels live.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a career you could suck really bad at, and still get gigs?

Rove's Alternate Reality Machine is Alive and Well!

I've written a lot about Karl Rove's "alternate reality machine," a device that could spin reality into something altogether different. It could defy video and audio evidence, defy transcripts, defy your very eyes and ears. It affected a huge percentage of the population, and those of us it didn't work on sat here incredulous, eyes and mouth agape like Jon Stewart, wondering what the hell was going on.

I had thought that with the 2008 election Rove's machine had rusted, broken down, lost some key parts, and could only occasionally sputter and cough out a brief warp bubble that would last for a little while, and then be popped by reality. But I was so wrong. The machine is just a strong as ever, though Rove may have put it on autopilot to provide deniability or something. The thing is, the machine now only works on Republicans. And not just Republicans, but the hard right-wing variety that populate FreeRepublic.com.

What is my evidence? Well, frankly there is too much to list. I'd have to copy their entire site and post it here. But this one picture I found there pretty much sums it up. Check out this "PhotoShop Fun" job. Technically it's just fine, good work. But the subject matter? Utterly and completely laughable. They apparently think that Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin are formidable and to be feared, instead of cartoon characters to be laughed at.

And that little car with Anderson Cooper in it? I'll be honest, I've never understood Rush Limbaugh's little "drive by media" phrase. It's a very weak analogy, having something to do with the media having a "hit and run" modus operandi or something. It's completely un-catchy, but Rush's ditto-heads (and his imitators and also-rans) use it religiously. More evidence of an alternate reality, I suppose. Anyway, the picture was so funny to me, I had to share.

Karl Rove Erases Harriet Miers From His Alternate Reality

Karl Rove apparently thinks his "Alternate Reality Machine" is still fully functional. For many of the last eight years, Republicans would regularly create their own reality, even when video or audio evidence directly refuted real reality. It worked for a long time, and even works to this day on a slimmer and slimmer percentage of the public (known a s"FReepers").

But the Harriet Miers fiasco was a little too recent for most of us to forget about. Bill Maher rightly criticized George W. Bush for nominating his "cleaning lady" to the Supreme Court. He wasn't far off.
