Mukasey Will Not Enforce Contempt Citations

Why do we even have laws? Is there anything the Bush Administration could do, any law they could break that would be considered noteworthy enough to do something about? What happens the next time Congress subpoenas somebody? Apparently your appearance is optional, and everybody is just supposed to accept that. Oh, and by the way, there will be no action on waterboarding either, even though it is now official that we did it.

If a Democrat wins the Presidency in the fall, I hope that they actually follow the rule of law. But if they don't--if they should step over the line somewhere--supporters of the current administration have absolutely no room to talk. None whatsoever. In fact, for every nit that Limbaugh, Hannity and the rest pick regarding the next Democratic President, should be met with a loud and clear, "Shut the f*** up."

Just to complete the theme of the day, Michael Mukasey said today that if Congress passed contempt citations against current and former White House officials based on their refusal to respond to subpoenas, the Justice Department would not enforce them, as federal law instructs. . .
