"Carpenters" House May be Demolished

In the heart of every kid of the 1970s is a closet The Carpenters fan. Sure, outwardly we'll claim we hated that schmaltzy stuff, but we're lying. It's akin to ABBA. It's just not cool to admit it. Some of the people who are not shy about their Carpenters love are mounting an effort to save their "iconic" home.

Fans try to block "The Carpenters" house from being demolished

A group of die-hard fans of the popular 70s band, "The Carpenters", are trying to block the owners of the house where Richard and Karen Carpenter became famous from tearing it down, saying it's a Downey Landmark.

Richard Carpenter sold the house in 1997, but before that the Downey, California house became famous when it was featured on the Carpenters 1973 hit album "Now & Then."
