The good news: if Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin really are the best contenders to run against President Obama in 2012, he couldn't have asked for better candidates to run against. The bad news: I really felt that way about George W. Bush too. And right now, the prospect of wingnut Sharron Angle possibly defeating Harry Reid here in Nevada gives me indigestion. It's easy to get hopeful, and think "that crazy person couldn't possibly win," Well, look what happened in 2000. The further good news is, if Gingrich won the nomination--but even more so if Palin did--it would energize the Democratic base, helping Obama's re-election chances.
