I was very pleased that Mike Huckabee fared so poorly in the Republican primary this year. He did serve a purpose in helping knock out some of the other cartoon characters running this year, but I'm sooo glad he did no better than that. Why? Because he makes unreasonable things sound much too reasonable. He's personable and folksy, and had a self-deprecating sense of humor. You come to like the guy if you don't pay too close attention to what he has to say.
But what he has to say freaks me the hell out. He's super churchy--having been a minister and all--and has scary thoughts about how the Constitution ought to be guided by the Bible. Plus he's anti-gay. In a super nice way, of course. Jon Stewart does a very good job of shooting him down, but Huckabee is even graceful about that. Scary.
