Mormon Church Gave $200 K for Proposition 8?


If the comments at AmericaBlog are to be believed, "lying for the lord" is a-OK in the Mormon Church. Apparently, they have an ends-justify-the-means attitude toward lying, if they believe that they are doing so in the service of their church.

Whether or not this theory is true, I do not know. But apparently, in the fight for Proposition 8--the measure that stripped California same-sex couples of their existing right to marry--the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints gave $200,000. That's $190 K more than they initially admitted to. And if they lied about it at first, who's to say that they aren't still low-balling it now?

It's getting really hard to believe Mormon leaders. They're not really heeding that commandment about lying. After downplaying their role in Prop. 8, the latest campaign filings show the church did spend a considerable amount of its own money. . .
