Sinkhole from Texas? George, is That You?

Stupid Monkey Planet, my friend and fill-in editor for the next several days, has gotten the jump on his posting here, by sending me a few story ideas. This is the first of them, notable for both the oddness of the story, the photograph, and the fantastic headline.

Texas sinkhole calm for the moment

Geologists said a 260-foot-deep sinkhole that grew to the length of three football fields over just two days seemed to be slowing down Thursday, but it could take months before it's clear whether surrounding areas are stable.

The 900-foot-long sinkhole, with crumbling dirt around its edges resembling sharp teeth, has swallowed oil tanks and barrels, tires, telephone poles and several vehicles in Daisetta, a once-booming oil town of about 1,000 residents about 60 miles northeast of Houston, Texas. . .
