Democrats who cross over and vote for Republicans in open primaries are politically savvy enough to know Santorum's position on auto bailouts. If they vote for him it will be because they think he is less electable in the general election than Mitt Romney. Santorum's robocalls are really about reminding Democrats that Michigan has an open primary, and they are free to cross over and vote for the most viable anti-Romney candidate.
ReplyDeleteYes. Except that you don't find out it's from the Santorum campaign until the end! It sounds like one of those "concerned citizen" groups. I worry about elevating Santorum to too lofty a perch. Making him the nominee is tempting--because he seems so weak a candidate--but what if he WON? >shudder<
ReplyDeleteI agree. I can't bring myself to vote for the greater of two evils in order to heighten the contradictions. There are too many things that could go terribly wrong. I also can't bring myself to vote for theocracy or reward anyone who would run on such a platform. But I can't bring myself to vote for Ron Paul either (he is just as batshit crazy, homophobic and anti-abortion as Santorum, although he doesn't emphasize those issues in his campaign). I'll probably skip the Republican primary (Wisconsin's is also open) and just vote in the local elections this April.
