CREW Stops White House from Destroying Records

One of the strange things that has happened in this country, due to the severe split between conservative and liberal, is the blindness to misdeeds performed on one's own side of the aisle. If you read any of the right-wing political blogs (or listen to Rush Limbaugh), you will find that almost any illegal or immoral act by the Republican party can be defended, ignored, dismissed, or excused.

This may happen on the liberal side, but not yet in my experience. The explosion of the internet and blogosphere during George Bush's tenure has little parallel to the Clinton years, and comparisons are difficult. But I don't recall liberals bending over backwards to defend Clinton then. Maybe they did, and I didn't see it. Mostly, I just remember liberals thinking the attacks on the Clintons were stupid--and many of them were.

Moving on to more recent Democratic scandals, I haven't read much about liberals defending Sandy Berger or William Jefferson. The former went through the legal system, the latter hasn't yet had his day. Have you seen a William Jefferson defense fund? Tom DeLay has one, so did Scooter Libby, along with numerous and prominent apologists. And so it goes.

In one of many examples of the Bush Administrations lapses into bad behavior, the White House has been trying mightily to prevent emails and other communications from being released. In some cases, they've already been destroyed, and in others, they are trying to destroy them. And this sort of thing is either tolerated or ignored on the right. Why?
