I've said in this space that it was George H.W. Bush's too friendly relationship with Pat Robertson and Pat Buchanan that led me away from the Republican party in 1992. I could not support (particularly after Buchanan's incendiary convention speech) a candidate who associated with people I abhor.
It's now 2007, and I'm comfortably a Democrat. But I'd imagine there are a few vague Republicans, those who are mainly GOP because their parents are, that will be having a similar epiphany this year. First we had Rudy Giuliani enthusiastically accepting the support of Pat Robertson (him again). And now we have John McCain warming up to Karl Rove.
This is not only a bad association, Rove was instrumental in derailing McCain's earlier campaign for President with vile, nasty smears. Unbelievable.
