And why not? On those few occasions when Rachel Maddow has guest-hosted an MSNBC show, she's done a bang-up job. She's one of the few pundits that can be deadly serious and completely affable at the same time. A Rhodes Scholar, her intelligence is never in question, but her wits are accompanied by a great deal of wit. It's a winning combination.
And lets be honest. Though she has been a fixture at Air America Radio since it began, the network has had an extremely rocky history. In its short four years, the network has revamped its lineup many times, lost its two flagship shows (The Al Franken Show and The Randi Rhodes Show). Decisions have been random and off-kilter, and plum spots have been given to shows like The Jerry Springer Show and Lionel--neither big ratings winners. And in that time, Rachel has been in at least three different time slots. After all that, when AAR recently re-recorded her "bumper" intros, the recorded voices got her name wrong, every time. It is Rachel Mad-O, not Rachel Mad-Oww.
That's not to say that cable news is without turbulence, MSNBC most of all. But with Countdown with Keith Olbermann on a steady upward tick, a televised Rachel Maddow Show would be a perfect fit. It would cause right-wing world to crank up their "liberal media bias" rhetoric yet another notch (does that thing go to 11?) But the easy answer to that is to promote her show that way. Call it From the Left with Rachel Maddow. Put the agenda right there in the title, and you've got no issue. Whatever they decide to do, I'll be watching.

Five Minutes With Rachel Maddow
Rachel Maddow is often times the only woman on MSNBC, usually surrounded by a bunch of pretty old white dudes. The awesome part is she more than holds her own. Maddow has her own show on Air America, a doctorate in political science, and a background in AIDS activism. There’s even a rumor (or demand) for Maddow to host her own show on MSNBC, especially after she guest-hosted for Keith Olbermann earlier this year.
Watch her take on the Obama couple’s fist pound:
