Proposition 8 Supporters to Take Anti-gay Fight Further?

Image from LATimes

Hmmm. Ever heard of the adage, "give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile?" Well, the people who were behind Proposition 8 in California, who have succeeded--for now--in eliminating same-sex marriage from the state, aren't done with their anti-gay ballot measures.

What they want isn't expressly clear in their press release, but they want another ballot measure that has to do with the teaching of homosexuality in schools. . .or something. I guess I need to know what if anything is taught about homosexuality in schools in the first place. I know that many right-wingers imagine wild and lascivious sex-ed classes whenever the words "sex" and "schools" get close together in a sentence. But as far as I know, only the barest of facts--cold, clinical and embarrassing--are ever taught in school.

The information excerpted below sounds innocuous enough. But we know these people and their tactics better now than ever, and I'm not getting a good vibe here.

Proposition 8 Wins While Battle Looms in Public Schools and Courts

. . .Pro-family forces are also already working on preparing another initiative that will give parents greater rights in protecting their children from controversial instruction relating to sex, sexual orientation and gender identity. "The passage of Prop. 8 is simply the first battle in protecting the rights of parents who do not wish to have their children indoctrinated to accept life-styles that violate their convictions or faith," said Brad Dacus, president of Pacific Justice Institute. . .

And just a side note here, the use of the word "life-styles" is like an irritation that cannot be scratched. I do not live a "life-style," I have a life different in no major way from the ordinary American taxpayer. "Life-style" is a euphamistic term, used back in the seventies (or earlier) in place of "gay" or "homosexual" in newspaper "personals" columns. It has no place in today's discourse. Seriously.
