I know that they've been offered a billion dollars to regroup, and have refused. And I'm aware that Agnetha Fältskog is the one who puts the sticky wicket into a reunion of ABBA. But, c'mon, guys! You're not getting any younger, and time's a-wastin'! Sure, Bette Midler, Cher and Elton John can keep Las Vegas rockin' on into their 60s, but time is limited. Can't we please--please--see an ABBA reunion before one of you slips away?
I've featured clips of ABBA songs on the blog before, most prominently Happy New Year, even though it includes clear references to 1979. Mamma Mia has only whetted America's thirst for new ABBA stuff! It doesn't have to be a live tour, or even a big showy concert. How about a new album? Benny and Björn can over-produce it to your pleasure, finessing Agnetha's and Anni-Fred's vocals to their 70s prime! We don't care! Just give us ABBA! Please?
I believe when at ABBA train was haulted the 2 boys were in the middle of an album that was a half hearted effort due to the strain of the relationships combined with the desire to try something different...musicals.
ReplyDeletethe album was called "Opus10" (Number 10)
it featured a great song called "Just Like That" ..it was never released but there is a theory a diehard fan actually dug it out of the trash of the studio when it was tossed out by the members.
through the years it was sliced and diced and i d/loaded all 4 pieces and thanks to my knowledge of music and editing, i spliced all the pieces together and came up with a 4:28 complete song of "Just Like That"
anyway i guess the whole point is, if for no other reason...ABBA OWES it to us to finish that album.
that's right! - the reason they formed in the first place...THE FANS!
do it for the fans!
the gazette editor is correct and it's echoed by many...we don't need anything crazy or flashy, were not asking anyone to do anything against their will like a tour, hell you don't even have to be in the studio at the same time now-a-days.
we (the fans) simply would like the completed "Opus 10" album.
The Mama Mia movie was great and all the small and solo projects since 83' but for god sakes, how much teasing and longing will we be subject to?
the members of ABBA have agreed it would need to be fun again, need to be interesting, there would have to be a reason or a desire to do it and it's not about the money - i can count 750 million reasons...all their fans around the world, do it for Stig (ABBA's former manager who passed away), he would want it that way.
if that's not enough how about the history making title of: "Longest Breakup Before A Reunion" (26 Yrs.)
Blondie was 16 yrs., The Eagles were 12 i believe and even Don Henley stated "We'll Reunite When Hell Freezes Over" and when that day came, naturally the title of the new album was "Hell Freezes Over".
i can go "On And On And On" but to you the members of this supergroup ESPECIALLY Bjorn who is affraid to release anything new so he doesen't spoil the memories of ABBA, i say you stand alone against the fans, you've had 26 yrs. to think of material and i'm SURE along the way had some great ideas and hooks..share them with the rest of the world..release the Opus 10 album with as many or as little tracks as you like...it won't tarnish or ruin anything!
for 9 years you took a chance and there was some garbage and people who didn't like the sound...but you kept moving for the real fans who trust your ear and knowledge of music!
your not lovers anymore nor are you enemies...you've proven you can work together again and even share a stage and a few laughs the way it used to be.
i promise you just as you've done before and took that chance on all the songs..and "ABBA The Movie" ..and "Mama Mia" the movie...the fans will be there and waiting not to judge, but to celebrate the long awaited magic, which is ABBA!

Hey, Aaron, if you'd like to share that "Just Like That" track, I'd be thrilled to hear it. I have a few different versions too. I think it could be a hit today.
ReplyDeleteI screwed the song up for my friend, Mark, who is a HUGE ABBA fan, by singing "tempermental gnome" instead of "temporary home." Now he can't hear the song without thinking about that angry little gnome!
Thanks for stopping by.
hi James, (and friends)
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy so send any of the versions through email if you'd like.
the versions i have available of "Just Like That" are: Chorus only version (Featured on their 1994 box set), the original version (retrieved from the trash), a VERY rare NA-NA-NA version (Agnetha singing "Na-Na-Na" where the saxaphone should be), and my 2006 remix incorporating all the pieces except for the Na-Na-Na Version, which has fair-poor sound quality.
all of my MP3's are "Compressed" or "Processed", this means they sound like they would on the radio (every song the same loudness), just no annoying D.J's ..haha
i also have other fun things such as the super rare deleted verse of "Dancing Queen" as sung by Agnetha - i have the studio video as well as the MP3, also the spanish versions of "Dancing Queen", "Chiquitita", Fernando" and many more.
just leave your email or contact me at Disco1998@yahoo.com
if i may slide off topic for a second - if you have a good ear for music i mean REALLY know what makes a masterpiece, check out a song called "Eeveybody's Changing" from the all guy UK band Keane.
Keane members went to went to school and grew up with another popular UK band called Colplay - a story for another time.
Anyway the song "Everybody's Changing" is addicting, has some of the same components as ABBA's "Dancing Queen" (Tamborine, A Disco hook running through it from the drummers High Hat, and a great piano highlight through the song as well, unpredictable Lyrics, a killer melody..etc) the video is pretty cool too.
In 2006 it was rated by "The Sun" as #79 of the 100 greatest songs of all time...it should have been higher.
the song is currently featured in the tv network USA's promo for "In Plain Sight", is played in concert when they perform here, AND was featured on their only SNL appearance.
BUT when this song was released in 2004, sadly it was never released officially on radio stations here in the USA!
i have been listening to music since i was 3 and being a former radio D.J. i can tell you it pains me that "Everybody's Changing" was never released here...,we are hungry for great music like this in the US.
i don't know if it's some sort of contract record deal which stopped it from being released or what but let me tell you it's a damn shame and it bothers me often when i think about it.
don't get me wrong Coldplay is good bordering on great, but they have a "Dark" side to their music which their pals and former classmates Keane don't seem to have.
Thanks James
-All the best!
