Gay Marriage Foes Want Iowa Governor to Step In

I puzzled over the headline to this post. See, even though the excerpt below is from the gay press, it manages to bury the lede. And this headline does too, a bit. See, the story is ostensibly about a plea to Iowa's governor to put in a stay on same-sex marriage until 2012, the first opportunity that voters would have to way in on the issue.

But the real story here, is that the primary "foe" in this case is a challenger to the throne, a guy who wants to be governor. Not only that, but what he is asking the governor to do can't actually legally be done in the first place. But that doesn't stop him from promising to issue a stay himself, if elected. Governor Vander Plaats?

Foes of gay marriage in Iowa want Governor Chet Culver to stop a state Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage with an executive order, reports the Des Moines Register.

Monday, hundreds of people attended an anti-gay marriage rally at the Iowa Statehouse. It was the third large rally gay marriage opponents have staged since the state Supreme Court issued its unanimous decision striking down a gay marriage ban on April 3, a Friday. . .
