Tea Baggers & Birthers Getting Nasty, Scary and Violent

UPDATE: It can't be said loudly enough, that the whole "killing old people" talking point is a) false, b) actually about making living wills, and c) was proposed by Republicans. Watch the last clip below for more.

ORIGINAL POST:

The craziness and stupidity by the far right--call them tea baggers, birthers, "the base", whatever--is turning into a foaming, rabid and violent frenzy. And national figures like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are stoking the fire, making matters worse. If the basis of this fear was genuine, if their concerns came honestly and the issues they're pissed about had some basis in reality, I might actually be impressed. For all the war protests held by the left over the last eight years, they never had an impact like this.

But the reality is, there is no health care plan that proposes killing old people (an actual, core belief of these people). There is nothing inherently evil or un-American about a national health care program (unless you think Medicare, Medicaid or the VA are un-American too). And I don't believe that these people really are bitching about health care. It's the convenient issue at the fore at the moment. Like Frank Schaeffer says in the clip from The Rachel Maddow Show below, the election broke their brains.

See, if the government really was trying to kill old people, or President Obama really was akin to Adolf Hitler, I would be proud of anybody who stood up and tried to do something about it. But those things aren't even close to true. And these people are being stirred up by corporate and political groups that know that. This is the real evil.
