Arthur C. Clarke 1918-2008

It is hard to imagine that it was over 40 years ago when 2001: A Space Odyssey was written/filmed. It was long before Star Wars & just down the street from Star Trek... but on a much more believable level. This writ changed our view of science, technology, space exploration & psychotic computers forever. (I still hear HAL's voice from time to time...)
Clarke (with help from his way cool friend & astronomer Carl Sagan) gave Kubrick the proper tools & knowledge to portray this movie in a very realistic way. Humanizing & demonizing technology, capturing the desperation & emptiness of space & in a more indirect way they gave us a chance to realize we are our own worst enemies... trapped on a little bitty speck of blue dust floating thru the vast universe... infested with stupid monkeys.

Stanley Kubrick on Clarke, "...he had the kind of mind the world can't get enough of: an array of imagination, intelligence, knowledge, and quirkish curiosity."

Monkey's speed to you Mr. Clarke... I hope your journey is in Technicolor.
