Bob Stupak was probably the most colorful public figure in Las Vegas since Bugsy Siegel. His ideas were outlandish, and not always executed very well. The Stratosphere Tower was probably his singular positive achievement, but it was known for a very long time as "Stupak's Stump," because it stood unfinished for a very long time. Stupak was never quite himself in public appearances after a motorcycle accident in the 90s. And the gaudy statue he had made of himself when the Stratosphere opened didn't endear himself to the city very much. But he was one of a kind. RIP, Bob.
