I'm a big fan of The Raw Story, a news/blog site from a left-wing perspective, and I've often used them as a source. Mostly because while their stories and commentary are aimed at a left-leaning audience, their content is solid news. On most of their pages, there is a video off to the side, called "Go Left TV." I clicked it for the first time, and I found it interesting. As much for what it isn't as for what it is.
What it is, is a presentation of news, with only a slight leftist interpretation (in my opinion). It is more the choice of stories that would be of interest to left-leaning viewers, than the way they are presented. Now, this opinion is based strictly on their Go Left/Raw Story weekly news update, so other videos could be total wing-nuttery. . .but given this clip, I wouldn't bet on it.
What I couldn't help but wonder though, is what the right-wing counterpart would look like. I'm thinking an amped up FOX "News," and it doesn't take too much imagination, because we are saturated with Rush Limbaughs and Sean Hannitys--people who claim to be trustworthy sources of news on their radio shows. Rush even says not to listen to other "news" sources, that he'll do the work for you.
The left has very little like the right when it comes to frothing, rabid partisanship. Other than Randi Rhodes or maybe Mike Malloy, I can't even think of a prominent lefty who even approaches the decible level of Michael Savage or Mark Levin. Michael Moore? He has incendiary opinions of course, but he's fairly affable in interviews and movies. Outside of some outspoken (and also fairly affable) celebrities, who else is there?
Given a title like "Go Left TV," these folks have a perfect right to go on any leftist tirade they want. They're not claiming to be "fair and balanced," after all. They could scream like anti-Savages (shudder), but they just. . .don't. Take a look, if you don't believe me.
