Daily Show's Jon Stewart Pummeled by Maher, Maddow & Olbermann?

Four of my favorite people on television are Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann, Bill Maher and Jon Stewart. So yes, I'm a screaming liberal lefty moonbat!  Or at least liking those four personalities will put me into such a category by many on the right. Here's the interesting thing though. These people are not a far-left army, marching in lockstep. In recent weeks, there has been a bit of a skirmish between different groupings of these people.

Most of it stems from what seemed to be the furtherance of the false equivalence being drawn by Stewart and others between MSNBC on the left and FOX "News" on the right.  Over the weekend, Stewart got it from Olbermann (before his suspension), Maher and--and by way of an out of context clip here (no kidding)--Maddow.  I think all of these people would have no time getting along at a party (or roundtable. . .make it happen), but it is interesting to see the respectful but barbed back-and-forth between them.  The end of the clip focuses on the afore mentioned FOX "News," and proves--without stating outright--exactly what Maddow, Maher and Olbermann were getting at.

  1. That's another thing we agree on: You are a "moonbat".

  2. What follows is CNBC being the fundraising arm of the collective.

The video shows fundraising URLs spouted by guests and even by hosts. You’ll see on-air soliciations for everything from campaign volunteers to cold, hard cash. Presiding over it all: Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Ed Schultz, and--yes--Rachel Maddow. We report, you decide:

  3. You mean MSNBC. I don't have time at the moment to watch the entire video. I watched the first half, and saw GUESTS rattling off their web addresses, not HOSTS. But maybe it's in there. I don't think you'll find 5 Democratic candidates for high office WORKING ON AIR at MSNBC though. Or the new Governor of Ohio. Or Olbermann headlining a DNC event. Plus, none of them (like Hannity and Beck) have THREE-HOUR radio shows which exist to bash Democrats and pump up Republicans. You may not see the difference, but there is a difference. Plus, FOX sucks.

  4. One more thing. As a person who has viewed a LOT of both FOX and MSNBC, here is my observation.

MSNBC (in prime time) starts with a story, and then discusses it from a liberal view point.

FOX (all freakin' day) starts with a view point, and then makes the story fit it.

Both make errors, and may say things that turn out not to be true. Both may--in a fashion--correct those mistakes. But FOX keeps fear alive by running with debunked stories as if they haven't been debunked: death panels, black panthers, $200-mil. per day India trips, etc., etc.

Their news sources their opinion hosts, their opinion hosts source their news hosts. . .they have this nifty self-contained bubble that keeps fake stories alive. And then they criticize other news outlets for not covering them!!!

I have no doubt that Johnny Dollar (a jerk, I've dealt with him before) can find exceptions, since he seems to have no life out of cable news. And I have no real desire to be a cheerleader for MSNBC/NBC/Universal/Comcast. I just get annoyed when I see a false equivalence being drawn, and promoted as loudly as the "MSNBC=FOX" one.

  5. All those networks have transparent agendas.
And all are left of center- Yes, even Fox.

The fear I see is on the left, projecting hatred onto a make-believe boogey-man that doesn't exist-- some long dead marxist boogeyman.

Wake up and smell America. We are out here. And the New York/DC media is so far out to lunch that it amazes me that anyone pays attention to them. Didn't the recent election show that the GOP and Dems are BOTH overwhelmingly rejected by America?!

We yearn to be free. Collectivism is the opposite of "liberal" western thought. Statism is repugnant. We are individuals, and we constituted this government to protect our life, liberty, and property. And when a government fails to protect us; but rather seeks to enslave us-- It will be replaced. This has been the consistent voting trend since Ross Perot pulled voters from Bush the elder, and as far back as Madison and Adams fought against the statist Hamilton. It turns out that bad guys always want to accumulate power and take from others, and it is also true that Americans want to be free.

The media want us dependent and reliable consumers. Ignore them. Move past the fear that has been mis-educated into you. Find the truth. People want to be free.

  6. If you think FOX is left of center, I simply can't imagine what you think RIGHT of center or FAR-RIGHT would be. Sorry, Sofa, but you are just flat-out wrong, in my opinion.

President Obama and the current Democrats are not far left as often depicted by conservatives. They're mostly moderates with rare exceptions like Alan Grayson or Russ Feingold who are merely solid left, not extremist.

What are your examples or benchmarks for Far Left/Left/Left-of-Center/Moderate/Right-of-Center/Right/Far Right? Because I can't dig through your generalities.

Oh, and the mainstream media (excepting FOX) being left-of-center is a "truism" that hasn't sufficiently been proven, IMO.

  7. The original intent of the Constitution would be the center.

We constituted this government to protect our lives, liberty, property, and natural rights.

"To the right" would consist of government conserving those individual rights, and staying within the limited powers specifically enumerated for the federal government.

"To the left" would be change away from that.

"Right" = Individual Rights and Liberty
"Left" = subjugation of Life, Liberty, or Property, or any other natural right to collective authority

The "idea that is America" was the product of the enlightenment and is the pinnacle of Western Civilization.

Communism and socialism subjugate individual liberty for the collective good, and are both incompatible with Western Civilization.

  8. To me, conservatives are about the status quo, opposed to change. Liberals are advocates of progress, which usually requires change.

    Democrats = "Party of We"

    Republicans = "Party of Me"

A country that does not care about the common good, is going to fail. It just is. We need infrastructure, we need a "commons," things that are there for all of us by all of us.

"Every man for himself" NEVER really happens. Ask someone who's been in a bad flood or hurricane, and had their town devestated if he wants the government out of his business. I don't believe your theories ever play out well in the real world.

Can you think of anywhere ever in the world that has the type of society you think of as ideal?

  9. "Can you think of anywhere ever in the world that has the type of society you think of as ideal?"

    YES. It was called 'America'.

Somewhere along the line, the Dems lost their way or were hijacked by communists. At this point, the Dems have become a "permanent irresponsible dependent ward of the state", and the GOP have been their enablers.

We responsible Americans, we producers, are saying "NO!" to the leeches who feast upon the host, and eat out our substance.

"I don't believe your theories ever play out well in the real world."

How does collectivism play out in the real world? Collectivism killed 150 million people within their own countries, in the 20th Century. Most of the survivors were enslaved, and led base subsistence lives. Collectivism has always been a brutal failure everywhere, in all times.

Meanwhile, America was the freest land of the greatest opportunity, ever. Until we let the collectivism creep in.

I'll choose America, as our founders articulated it. Beacuse it was "the shining beacon on a hill" that drew tired huddled masses, yearning to be free, for many generations. Now the collectivists have crapped in their own soup bowl, and made the place repugnant to the Constitution. But we're fixing that.

    Liberty rules.
    Collectivists drool.
    Everywhere, and always.

  10. Wow, so in an effort to prove a point, you're still trying to push that discredited argument about there being a "Communists behind every bush." Seriously, all that accomplishes is to make yourself appear very much like the "little boy who cried wolf".

    ReplyDelete
  11. GNOP, Sofa reminds me of Grandpa Simpson. The long-winded stories in search of a point, decrying communists, and pointing and screaming, "DEATH!" at random moments.

  12. GNOP- They are individuals with names, not inflated "wolves behind every bush". They do many collectivist things, and they make collectivist arguments using the tired communist dialectic, and they proudly call themselves collectivists. You may call them whatever you like; "progressives", etc. But a rose by any other name is still a rose.

James- Communists remind me of Nicolae Ceauşescu. Fascists remind me of Benito Mussolini.

Thanks for complementing me by saying that I point out communists. They are deadly.

decry: belittle, condemn, criticize, denounce, detract, discredit, disgrace, disparage, malign, put down, vilify.

Communism is evil. Every sane person who witnessed the 20th century decries communism and the collectivist philosophy.

Regarding the screaming- That is called 'cognitive disonance': It's the noise inside your head when reasoning and facts begin to replace the miseducated mythology. It's a good and natural thing...

"A young man who isn’t a socialist hasn’t got a heart; an old man who is a socialist hasn’t got a head."
    - variously attributed to Winston Churchill, Lloyd George, and Georges Clemenceau

For some reason, I can't stop picturing the 50s red scare and old Mission Impossible and James Bond plots. You seem to have gotten stuck in the cold war.

or with the Minuteman at Concord

The last few years have been like 1765-1775. After suffering a long train of abuses, we are drawing a line. Read the 'Declaration" to see what we're thinking.

  19. If and when I ever see any evidence of actual reasoning in your posts, I'll do my best to counter it.

Personal attacks, a little thin skinned are we? If you're going to dish it out, it's a good idea to be able to take it without complaining.

Sofa, this may or may not be about reading comprehension. I've been a reader for a long, long time, and usually have no issue with comprehension. But I'm with GNOP here. Your point often eludes me.

Also, allusions to Grampa Simpson and Christopher Walken being read as personal attacks? A bit of a stretch--more teasing than bullying--but much lighter in tone than calling all or most Democrats/liberals communists and such.
