This is a toughie. It's one overblown cartoon character assailing the character of another. And while I'm inclined to agree with Newt Gingrich initially (frightening, right?), I'm not so sure it's the best analogy. Sure, P.T. Barnum famously said "There's a sucker born every minute," but you could argue that every GOP presidential hopeful is banking on that. And Barnum ran the Circus. He wasn't really one of the acts. I suppose Trump believes himself to be the master showman, the best at what he does, drawing rubes in to his tent to vote his way (or more likely, watch his show). But he's really just one of the clowns performing for our amusement. It's actually going to be very amusing to watch, if he maintains his front-runner status. Newt won't be the only one trying to stop that crazy train.
On the other hand, the winners in all of this are people like Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin. Compared to Trump, they look nearly rational. And that is scary.

I find it funny that the left is so fixated on Trump. Trump is a clown and will not run for president. But if he does, he won't survive the primary.
ReplyDeleteBut then again, we, the conservatives, just don't have anyone yet for president, or at least I don't.
But it would be very entertaining if Trump did go against Obama. If Trump wins, he can say to Obama: "You're Fired".
Here is where blogging gets tricky, Dan. When do you focus on a subject, and when do you ignore them? I think Trump is a boob. A big, saggy, bewigged boob. I think the notion that this man could ever be a viable candidate for President is LUDICROUS. But he's LEADING the pack at the moment!
ReplyDeleteI am torn between Trump doing this for attention, and Trump being convinced that he has a shot. It could go either way. It's much the same with Sarah Palin. I think she's the female Trump, except that she's actually attractive, physically. She should not be a viable candidate, in any rational universe. But is she? What do you think?
