Worse, the Republicans are lying to us. "Nobody wants a shut down" they say, and then they turn around and get thunderous applause for promising to shut 'er down! Great, now they're getting catch phrases from Larry the Cable Guy. Lord knows why they want the government to shut down. Most likely, it will be a colossal--and expensive--mess to clean up. Way, way more trouble than it's worth. And exactly what would our consequences be? Do they care?

If the Democrats didn't want a shut down, why didn't they pass a budget when they had full control of both houses- Senate and House?
ReplyDeleteI happen to be for a shut down and get a budget instead of these two week bills that don't do much.
And if the GOP gets blamed, so what. they should wear it as a badge of honor, if they were smart enough, which sadly, they are not.
Why they didn't pass a budget is above my pay grade. I don't know. Probably a political miscalculation. But I don't believe they wanted a government shutdown. I can't imagine why anyone would.
ReplyDeleteA shutdown will cause delays in soldiers' pay, and in tax refunds. It will close national parks and facilities, throwing tourism and the tourism industry into disarray. It's a freakishly radical "solution," to my mind. And why--when the Dems have now caved to the GOP's original demands--are the Republicans STILL saying "no way?"
