No More Frankens? The Real Story.

Image from Politico
The Republicans are still sore about the Sen. Al Franken (DFL-Minn.) victory after a long recount in 2008.  All through the state-mandated procedure, they were crying foul, claiming dirty tricks and cheating. Former Sen. Norm Coleman played along, going so far as to pretend that he'd won, and that Franken was a sore loser who should give up. Then, after it was all said and done, Franken won, and Coleman got involved in organizations that make those charming political ads we've been treated to for the last several months.

There's a group out there called No More Frankens determined to stop a similar thing from happening again. Which is puzzling, since what happened in Minnesota is what is supposed to happen, by law. But the "voter fraud" bogeyman--though he is rare indeed--is a prime issue for a lot of conservatives. I think it's mostly a pretext for voter intimidation from the right, but hey, just my opinion.  But before we get into what are sure to be several contested races on Tuesday (and bellyaching likely from both sides), what really went down in Minnesota in 2008?  Here's one take.

NoMoreFrankens? A Closer, Factual Look At The Minnesota Senate Recount

It seems almost certain that there's going to be a recount - or two or three -- come Wednesday somewhere in the United States, maybe in Nevada for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, maybe in Alaska where write-in ballots could determine Sen. Lisa Murkowski's fate, and even, some pundits believe, Sarah Palin's.

It's going to be fun. . .

  1. Franken stealing that election was one of the last straws for Americans watching.

In a saner time, he would be hung for Treason.

    Po-ta-toe ... Po-tah-toe

It's a matter of what you choose to observe, and what you choose to ignore.

How many recounts with how many 'new ballots' found in jails? Open theft. We noticed.
And we noticed that others obfuscate and pretend it wasn't so.

  3. Did you even read the article I excerpted? Nothing indicates that this election was stolen. Minnesota has what is regarded as the cleanest elections in the country. But like the idiotic "birther" conspiracy theory, go ahead and just believe what you want to believe, facts be damned.

  4. "...go ahead and just believe what you want to believe, facts be damned."

    Which was also my point.

  5. Speaking of stolen elections. I remember a certain presidential election where the conservative candidate with the help of the SCOUS...........

  6. Yeah, "The Goricle" tried to steal that, but he was stopped. So ACORN and it's evil spawn have used lawfare to openly stealing elections, with DOJ backing them.

Payback will be a bitch. Stealing elections is Treason. The remedy is specified in the Constitution.

  7. "Yeah, "The Goricle" tried to steal that, but he was stopped."

It's rather obvious that you and reality aren't on speaking terms.

  8. The "Goricle?" Whatever, Sofa. Is it even possible to be a sore loser in a contest your side won? The fact is, more people voted for Gore than Bush, and that the final ruling by the Supreme Court didn't do much to clear up the real electoral fight. Do YOU think the Supremes have that authority? Why do you think they said that their ruling was a "one time only" thing? Maybe because its basis was flimsy?

  9. Dems spun up several organizations after 2000 to steal elections: As each is caught in turn, it morphs into several others. ACORN begets many, etc, etc, etc. Inconvenient truth?

It's sad to see a once proud party reduced to stealing and Treason to try to overcome the will of the citizenry.

    ***

The Supremes got involved because the attempted theft was of historic proportions.

  10. GNOP,
Reality awaits you data and reasoning.
Or is 'ad hominem' all that you offer?

  11. Where is your data and reasoning, Sofa? Where's any evidence that ACORN is this all-powerful voter fraud force? They're GONE now, by the way. If voter fraud and hijinks bother you so much, are you concerned about vote caging? Voter intimidation? Monkey business with voting machines? Do you really think Democrats are "cheating" and the GOP is pristine?

Go to BradBlog if you want more info on this subject, it is covere IN DEPTH there, with all the data and reasoning you could need.

  12. sofa,

"Ad Hominem" attack, not at all. Fact: When someone limits themselves to repeating political talking points as their only means of debate. They demonstrate quite clearly that they are indeed divorced from reality.

I'm just pointing out the obvious.

  13. GNOP,

No data, No reasoning. You suggest others are divorced from reality.

    You make your own point.
