Abortion is not usually an issue Democrats run on. Republicans do, of course. But while many Democrats stand for a woman's right to choose, it isn't often that it takes on a prominent place in election strategy. In Nevada, you're not likely to find Harry Reid himself running on the issue. I'm not even sure what Reid's stance is on the issue. But when you have a wackadoodle like Sharron Angle running for Senate, and she's on the record saying that rape and incest victims should be forced to carry their attacker's baby to term, well. . .
This ad is from one of those PACs with a patriotic name--Patriot Majority PAC--something I usually leery of. But this ad is effective, and better than that, it is true. No whitewash, parsing of language, out-of-context quotes, or misrepresentation. This is what Angle believes, and I've got to think that most Nevadans don't support her on this.
Do you kill babies in your own home?
ReplyDeleteOr just support others who choose to kill babies?
Aiding and abetting murder is ungood.
Killing babies is double plus ungood.
Is it OK because you think the babies 'deserve it'?
Or because they cannot vote?
Or because they aren't in a union?
Or because extremists never mind the genocide of groups that can not defend themselves?
Sofa, abortion is not my issue. As a gay man, I'm in the statistically smallest group that it affects (interesting that the two issues often get lumped together, isn't it?). But I'm engaged enough to know that an acorn is not an oak tree. How do you define a "baby?" Conception? Three weeks? First trimester, second, third?
ReplyDeleteThere are a whole lot of people smarter than me to decide that. But I do know a zygote is not a human being. I'm also aware that women often miscarry without even knowing they're pregnant. Not every zygote becomes a baby, even if no abortion is involved. Invitro fertilization is legal, which routinely discards viable embryos, correct?
If my sister was raped, and became pregnant, I'd be ALL FOR the morning after pill, and barring that, an early abortion. Abso-freakin'-lutely.
I've got to comment on the Orwellian reference. Big 1984 fan.
ReplyDelete'Don't ask, don't tell' approach for murder is 'wackadoodle', even if it isn't your issue.
ReplyDeleteBut at what point is it murder? You didn't answer that. If you say that preventing a zygote for implanting, or throwing out viable embryos is MURDER, I'd vehemently disagree. I personally don't know where the dividing line is, but if you consider a small cluster of cells a person, you're in the minority.
