The Worthlessness of Hannity & Colmes

Photo from Wikipedia.com

I'll say this about FOX "News" so-called debate program: it never fails to come in lower than my expectations. To paraphrase those anti-smoking PSAs, if you've never watched it, don't start. Worse than being offensive, the show is utterly worthless, except as right-wing propaganda for undiscerning viewers.

After a day with all manner of Bush Administration problems, Hannity & Colmes, true to form, managed to dredge up nothing but dreck in their hour of prime-time cable "news." Not finding a way to spin the day's actual news, we get stories about Ward Churchhill (who cares?) and a slew of "stars" from the second "Freedom Concert." That, and the nightly Democrat-bashing, with co-host Alan Colmes providing his minimalist counterpoints.

If you can bear it, try watching this show some evening, immediately after watching Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Even if you don't agree with Olbermann's point of view, can you say honestly that H&C even comes close to being a news program by comparison?

I could never hope to equal the dissection of this program as well as the folks over at Newshounds.us ("We watch FOX, so you don't have to"). So, check this out. And if you like it, keep reading. If you aren't already around to my way of thinking, you will be.

Sean Hannity Complains About “Reckless Rhetoric” Of Political Discourse
Reported by
Ellen - July 27, 2007

Sean Hannity was on his Hanctimonious high horse last night (7/26/07) over what he called the “reckless rhetoric” being used in political debate. “The bickering has turned very, very ugly, downright ugly,” he said. But Hannity didn’t raise any objection when his bullyboy buddy, Mark Levin, accused Democrats of everything but being traitors. With video.

Hannity hosted his portion of Hannity & Colmes from the second of his “Freedom Concerts” where he sat in front of a crowd that seemed to have no people of color. Nearly all the guests that night came from semi-celebs who were at the show.

Predictably, the only harsh rhetoric that bothered Hannity was that which came from Democrats. “I’ve just gotten fed up with the rhetoric from the Democratic Party,” Hannity said to Levin. “What is it about the Democratic Party that they seem to be able to feel they can get away with this continued reckless rhetoric?”

  1. Thanks you for the kind words.

The level of vitriol and mean-spirited partisanship toward a large portion of the country, the country that Hannity and his cohorts purport to love, never ceases to amaze me.

I'm even more shocked that there isn't a larger outcry from the real America.

I find it very frightening and profoundly disturbing.

  4. Ellen, thank you! I've been found by a real blogger! And don't worry, I really haven't got the hang of Blogger yet either. Thanks for all that you do. I read your site daily, probably in my top two clicks (along with AmericaBlog). Great job!
