I recently posted a piece on ABBA for my good friend (and loyal Greenlee Gazette reader) Mark, one of the group's biggest fans. Well, Mark must be elated that the hit musical based on ABBA's music is being made into a major motion picture, starring Meryl Streep!
It will be interesting to see if this is a direct adaptation of the musical, or if the movie version smooths out a few of the wrinkles and plot holes. Mama Mia! is a hit for its music and energy, but probably not so much for its story. The plot focuses on a young woman about to get married, who wants to invite her father to the wedding. Unfortunately, Mom was rather a free spirit, and "Dad" could be one of three different men, none of which knows about the girl. Wackiness ensues. It's better than it sounds, and the music is outstanding. Here's a preview:
