Truthiness Without A Script? Colbert & Stewart Return


This should be fairly interesting. Because of the writers' strike, as you know, most talk shows have been in reruns or off the air. Like many fans, I've fallen out of the habit of watching The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report, since their topical stories tend to lose their relevance when rerun.

But starting next year, both shows are coming back, without writers. This will likely be enough to get fans to re-hook themselves, I'd imagine. Jon Stewart will probably have the easiest time of it, since he can rely more on interviews, and maybe some quick news recaps. Colbert on the other hand is in character for his program, which I'd imagine takes a bit of writing to pull off. He's talented at improvisation, so maybe he'll surprise us.

Politicians beware: Parody is returning.

"The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and "The Colbert Report" will resume production on Jan. 7 without their striking writers, the Comedy Central network announced Thursday.

Both late-night shows were shuttered after the Hollywood writers strike began seven weeks ago. The comedy duo are the latest late-night hosts to announce their return to the air while the ongoing writers strike continues to devastate much television and film production. Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Kimmel have all recently said that they will resume their programs on Jan. 2 with or without their writing staffs. . .
