The prospect of the Bush Administration being held accountable for anything, seems more an more like fantasy. And just when my cynical heart is ready for the unpleasant acceptance that they're all gonna skate, something gets me to hold out a little hope.
More often than not, that hope buoyed by the actions of Congressman John Conyers. This particular issue, that of Contempt of Congress, is one of the most important ones to me. If it is not addressed, what motivation would anyone have to appear before Congress when subpoenaed? What "executive privilege" claim could be dismissed? Go get 'em, John.

House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) filed a report today holding that two White House officials are in contempt of Congress for their continued refusal to honor subpoenas in connection with the controversial firing of US attorneys last year -- but he's offering one last chance to make a deal.
House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) filed a report today holding that two White House officials are in contempt of Congress for their continued refusal to honor subpoenas in connection with the controversial firing of US attorneys last year -- but he's offering one last chance to make a deal.
“I have written to you on eight previous occasions attempting to reach agreement on this matter,” Conyers says in the letter. “As we submit the Committee’s contempt report to the full House, I am writing one more time to seek to resolve this issue on a cooperative basis.”
