This is the first part of a series, giving a shout-out to fabulous singers whose careers seem to have stalled in the 80s or 90s. All of these artists are favorites of mine, and have produced good music well past their heyday prime. All deserve a shot at a comeback. Give a listen.
First up: the fantastic Pat Benatar. This case of "stalled career" is one that I consider the most tragic. Pat has made a series of incredible albums through the 90s and up through the '00s, yet lots of people think she stopped making music in the 80s. Not true! Her 1997 album, Innamorata is great all the way through (except the last track, trust me). 2003's GO is a powerful rock album, and I never heard a track from it on the radio. Who's her publicist? If you like this song (and I love it), go out and get a copy of Innamorata, or even better Synchronistic Wanderings which covers her whole career up to 2000 or so. Excellent set.
Fortunately, Pat (and her co-billed husband, Neil Geraldo) comes through Vegas a couple of times a year or so. I've seen her in concert at least four times, and she gives one of the best performances I've seen.
This is Strawberry Wine from Innamorata. Enjoy
