Clyburn Warns Democrats about Dividing Party

Congressman James Clyburn is making Friday slightly less of a slow news day this week. In reporting the feelings of African Americans as he's heard them, he's become the center of the story.

Myself, while I have no doubt that some Democrats are feeling irreparably divided right now, we've still got a long way to go. True, I'd be happier if this thing were wrapped up quickly, so that we can get on with the general election. But the fact remains that the general hasn't started yet. Any perceived advantage that John McCain now holds is going to be subject to change when it does start. And any poo-flinging going on between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama is unlikely to stick into that process.

Remember just a few short months ago, when McCain, Romney and Huckabee were going at it. There was a lot of nastiness being thrown around, but now it's a love fest--for a candidate that high-level Republicans were decidedly against. The same thing is going to happen in the Democratic Party. It would just be advantageous for that process to get started sooner rather than later.
