Back in 1975, when I was not even 10 years old, we found out that Mom was pretty cool. We were allowed to stay up as late as we wanted on Friday and Saturday nights! And because of this, Mom, my brother and I were all in front of the TV in the rec room when NBC's Saturday Night debuted.
I'm pretty sure we didn't know in advance what we were about to see. And we surely didn't know that the show would still be on (now called Saturday Night Live), 33 years later! Here is the very first scene from the very first episode that this little nine year old saw. It's the first appearance of John Belushi, Chevy Chase and writer Michael O'Donaghue, as well as the first utterance of "Live from New York it's Saturday Night!"
