Al Franken Schools Republicans on Tax Breaks and Unemployment Extensions

This is a long read, but it's a really good one. Now, I know that Senator Al Franken has a large contingent of detractors, but I believe that stems from his long-running feud with FOX "News" host Bill O'Reilly. He's a very smart guy, and his views really do need a wider audience.

[Excerpt]

Floor Statement: Tax Cuts and Unemployment Insurance

M. President, I was presiding this Monday when one of my friends on the other side of the aisle was speaking on the floor on a very important topic. He said, "We need to do everything to see that the deficit does not increase." Now, less than a week later, he is going to vote to increase the deficit by $700 billion. That's an impressive reversal, don't you think? . . .

  1. Back in the day, 5th grade was were we first got into the details about the founders and the Constitution.

Al probably went to a collectivist school, so he never learned about the Constitution thingy.

  2. "Franken was graduated in 1969 from The Blake School, where he was on the wrestling team. He attended Harvard College and graduated cum laude in 1973 with a B.A. in political science."

  3. He speaks against the ideals that founded this country.
He might blame his mis-education at Harvard.

(Thanks for confirming his collectivist education.)

  4. Sofa, is there anything about this country or its institutions that you DO like?

  5. I like reasoned discussions, western civilization, traditional American ideals, and 'natural law' as expressed by our founders (the idea that is America).

All reasonable men have a responsibility to fight evil, tyranny, collectivism, racism, and piracy. To defend their life, liberty, and property from aggressive pirates who would steal and rape and plunder.

    Don't you?
Or are you arguing that fighting to defend against a rapist-- is the fault of the victim? That self defense by the victim makes them a 'hater' for trying to preserve their own life, liberty, property.

"Redistribution of wealth" is stealing and rape.

Embrace life and love and liberty.
    Blame the rapist.

  6. It is Orwellian to try to equate 'not wanting to be raped', with 'hate'.

    Check your assumptions.
You argue that the government should take things from people forcibly. And force them to do things that they do not want to do.

I ask to be left alone to do what I want.
I am saying that a religious group can not tell me to be gay, or not.
I have a 'natural right' to do as I please, and not be forced to do what others decide is good for me.
    It's America, baby.
    Or it used to be.

And the keen observer would note that our founders were in a similar situation, and tried to vote and petition to correct their grievances; but after a long train of abuses, when the government acted against the good of the people, then "we the people" managed to defeat the greatest military power in the world. And they constituted a government specifically to protect their Liberties.

    Sic Semper Tyrannis.
    Always.

  7. Once again, you're soooo far away from the topic of the post. I don't buy your arguments, but damned if you can't make any subject about them.

Al Franken is to my way of thinking one of those "reasonable men" you're talking about.

  8. Arguing in favor of Marx and Lenin?
    Reasonable?
