Santorum: No One Has Ever Died Because They Didn't Have Health Care

In a year full of stupid, Rick (don't Google me) Santorum takes the prize. What a boob.

[Excerpt]

Santorum: No One Has Ever Died Because They Didn't Have Health Care

. . .“The answer is not what can we do to prevent deaths because of a lack of health insurance. There’s — I reject that number completely, that people die in America because of lack of health insurance,” Santorum said to a crowd of 100. . .

  1. Well, he is right. no one has died becaus eof th elack of health insurance. In an emergency, they have to be treated in an emergency room.
However, have conditions worsened because of the lack of insurance? That is true, if a person cannot afford health insurance and doesn't qualify for help, then yes, their conditions will worsen until it becomes an emergency. So he is right,

  2. No, he's not right. You can't go to the emergency room for preventive care. You can't go to the emergency room for chemotherapy. Or radiation treatments. There are many other examples.

  3. A friend of mine didn't go to see a doctor for a lump because she didn't have health care. She was afraid it would be too expensive and didn't want to burden her family with helping to pay the medical bills. By the time she was admitted into the hospital, she lived only 3 weeks. She died of breast cancer and was only 42.

  5. If you have to have chemo or radiation, and cannot afford it, then the government should step in through Medicare or Medicade. If they have a cancer and it is growing, then they could be considered to be disabled, thus qualifying for the disability insurance.
There is a safety net out there. Not great but it is there.
As far as other things, how do you think illegals get by? They go to the ER and get their blood cleansed if they have kidney problems.
As far as Lisa, I am sorry for her loss but her friend did have options and she chose not to get treated. That happens, sadly but she could have been treated.
I still say that Santorum is right.

  6. Santorum is a frothy mix. But besides that, he can't be right here. Like the woman related above, people who have possible pre-cancerous symptoms can't afford to go get it checked out. Even if they get in to get a diagnosis, they can't afford the treatment. You can't tell me that no one has died due to lack of adequate health care! Of course they have!
