There's been a buzz brewing on the internets, in both the right and left wing blogosphere. There is a suspicion out there that Osama bin Laden will be captured or killed sometime before the election, presumably to shore up George W. Bush's legacy, and boost John McCain's chances in November.
We've heard this before of course, as possibilities before the 2004 Presidential election, and at other politically opportune times. If it is true this time, there is an underbelly to the story that would have to be considered. If the capture of bin Laden can be politically timed, it stands to reason that we either a) already have him quietly in custody (or on ice), or b) we know exactly where he is and are confident that we can produce him on a moment's notice.
That's kind of dirty and underhanded. I wonder, should this come to pass, how many Barack Obama supporters would be swayed by the political theater that would ensue. And would taking seven years to accomplish the task really be such an amazing feat?
