Well, I'll give her this, she may not know much, but she can pretend she does! She also seems to have been prepped to spin a few things, like retroactively changing her "Iraq is God's Plan" tune into an Abraham Lincoln quote. She used Charles Gibson's nickname "Charlie" a lot, a classic stalling tactic, and has command of a few key buzzwords like "inalienable rights," even when they don't quite apply.
I don't think she's dispelled any naysayers' belief that she's not ready to be Vice President or President. She also pronounces the word "nuclear" as nook-yoo-ler, which is an icepick to liberals' ears (more so than her accent). The best moment for me was when she tried to bluff her way through explaining "The Bush Doctrine," first by stalling, then by trying to push through blindly. When Gibson told her (not quite accurately) what the Bush Doctrine actually was, she took right off from his explanation, fully supporting it. I wonder, if Gibson had told her the difference between going to war against a known threat versus Bush's Doctrine of going to war against a perceived threat if she would have had the same answer. We'll never know, because she didn't know.
It has already been proven that nothing Palin says or does--short of flip-flopping on abortion--would keep her disciples from loving her. And her willingness to go to war with freakin' Russia will only endear her to them all the more.
For Gibson's part, the interview--while a little soft and squishy--was more probing that I thought it would be. I knew he would not make hamburger of her, but I'm interested to see the next part of the interview to see what's coming!
Here's what's coming up in Part 2:
[Excerpt]
Palin Takes Hard Line on National Security, Softens Stance on Global Warming
Sarah Palin may toe John McCain's line on national security issues, but when it comes to global warming and drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the running mates will "agree to disagree," the Alaska Governor said in an exclusive interview with ABC News's Charles Gibson. . .
