Hypocrisy: Sarah Palin, Rock Star

Photo from source, Star Tribune

Do you remember a few weeks ago, when John McCain was running ads about Barack Obama being a celebrity? McCain made fun of Obama's supporters for holding him up as "The One," a Moses for our times.

Tell me something. How is that any different from the fawning, rapturous response Sarah Palin is garnering from conservatives right now? Here's a woman who was a virtual unknown as recently as two weeks ago. Outside of an endlessly rehashed stump speech, we've seen absolutely nothing from her. No question and answer sessions from the press. No indication whatsoever that there is anything more to her than the ability to read effectively (though with an annoying accent) from a teleprompter.

The press has made an effort to find out more about her. But all of those efforts are met with a) "They're smearing her! Sexists!" or b) "We don't care. We looooove her!" Based on what? Her conservative cred has taken some serious hits, especially as it relates to earmarks and pork (and I'm not talking about lipstick on a pig). I suppose the hints of her abuses of power are enough to secure her position in the pantheon of Republican greats.

But the fact remains, whatever adulation Obama has received during his 18 months or so on the campaign trail have been eclipsed by the orgasmic acclaim that Sarah Palin is receiving after less than two weeks. How does that square with McCain's anti-celebrity message?

Oh, that's right. It doesn't matter. She's less experienced than Obama? Who cares? She hunts! She likes moose stew! She's a hockey mom! Hypocrisy much?

[Excerpt]

The Palin effect: Rock-star status

"The emergence of Sarah Palin as a political force in the presidential race has left many top Democrats fretting that, just two weeks after their convention ended on a emotional high, Barack Obama's campaign has suddenly lost its stride. . ."
