Oh. Come. On! Just when I thought the complaints from John McCain's campaign couldn't get stupider, they really pull one out. Apparently, Barack Obama used the old "lipstick on a pig" adage, and the McCain campaign cried foul, claiming that Obama was slamming Sarah Palin. Yeah, uh huh.
Obama has used the phrase before. McCain himself has used the phrase also. Most people probably have. It's right up there with "making a silk purse out of a sow's ear." The only thing they have to hang this on is Palin's "lipstick on a pit-bull" joke (which wasn't very funny). Obama also used a "fish" metaphor. . .is that a slam at Palin too?
Honestly, I remember when Hillary Clinton was still in the race, and one of her ploys (I forget which week it was) was to play victim, and claim sexism. The PUMAs out there (if they actually exist) still cling--yes I said cling!--to that as though it happened in abundance, direct from Obama. Even though it didn't. But Republicans (and probably McCain) poo-poohed the sexist claims, and pretty much told her to buck up.
Now, it would seem that the only play McCain has got--beyond his incessent barely-if-at-all true negative ads--is to paint Palin as a victim. Poor, put-upon Sarah! They've even had to sequester her from all reporters. Well, except for Charlie Gibson who has apparently had to follow some rules to get the interview.

A Piggish Debate
Last October, asked about Sen. Hillary Clinton's health care plan, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was blunt.McCain said Clinton's proposal was “eerily” similar to the ill-fated plan she devised in 1993. “I think they put some lipstick on a pig,” he said, “but it’s still a pig.” A common expression, right?

Jane Swift seems to be a pig, if not she is overly sensitive about the word. She appears to wear lipstick, which, in combination with being a pig or only "piglike" must be what has pushed her over the edge in regard to Senator Obama's remarks. But just maybe she is only doing this for political reasons only. Would a member of the "truth squad" stoop to such a low level of intercourse? I can't imagine it. I noticed she has a (R) behind her name, which must be code for something. I see those "R"s all over the place, usually they are associated with the nice people who help the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, the executives screw the rank and file, the drug companies stick to Americans, and oh yes, they are the official party of Jesus. I don't remember Jesus pushing the whole "hate" agenda, but they sure seem to like speaking for him.
ReplyDeleteWell, if Swift really thinks Obama said that, then she needs to learn some reasoning skills, and well some basic reading skills. But if her goal is only to lower the level of political discourse, then I say "bring it on Pork-chop!"
