Keith Olbermann's Special Comment on 911™

During the Republican National Convention, a film was run--for all of the major news--that was billed as a "tribute" to the people who died, lost and/or was a hero on September 11, 2001. What followed was not so much a tribute, but a horror show, designed to make us remember not heroism but fear.

Keith Olbermann, anchoring MSNBC's political coverage that night, quite rightly denounced the film, and apologized to the audience for the network's decision to air it. Since then, Olbermann--along with Chris Matthews--has been sidelined from the anchor chair for future Presidential campaign events, though he will likely still be present as a commentator. Many on the right have applauded this of course, and have also attributed Olbermann's on air denunciation as the reason for his "demotion."

Wherever the truth lies, Olbermann could be expected to never revisit that particular topic again. But he didn't. Tonight, on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, he gave another of his incendiary Special Comments on the topic. In it, he launches a blistering attack against Republicans in general and John McCain in specific, for their "branding" of 9/11™ as a political tool. I couldn't agree more. Running on that them, Olbermann could just as easily added that they've co-opted liberty™, freedom™, democracy™, patriotism™, family values™ and Judeo-Christian values." But I won't quibble. . .

  1. Excellent... keep up the viral spread of truth. Speak the truth to power, that's the only thing that keeps us American.
