Wake Me in November!

I almost got up this morning to watch Meet the Press, but rolled over and went back to sleep instead. The Sunday morning political shows have become a tradition for me for the last four years or so. But this morning, the squoosh of the new memory foam mattress was far more alluring.

Unfortunately for me, since I always watch MTP, the DVR is not set to record it. We usually get three of the shows at once, so one has to be watched live. So that left me with Face the Nation, which featured John McCain (who at times deserves Sen. Joe Lieberman's "Droopy Dog" nickname), and the barely watchable FOX "News" Sunday.

F"N"S had the spokespeople for both candidates on, David Axelrod (Obama) and Rick Davis (McCain). It was predictably worthless to watch, except for possibly a couple of gotcha quotes for future use. These aren't the candidates, and they aren't very good either. They're both pros at not answering direct questions, and saying what they were planning to say, regardless of what they're asked. The only thing that jumped at me was Davis' near admission that Sarah Palin was not ready to face press before she gets some cram study time in. She'll be out to talk to the press when they say she will. Nice leash there, Rick.

Instead of getting up to watch these shows, I may have done well to just read the paper. Take Frank Rich's piece on McCain's selection of Sarah Palin. Good stuff.
